How the different coordinate systems are converted: Degrees Minutes Seconds to Degrees Minutes.m Degrees = Degrees Minutes.m = Minutes + (Seconds / 60)
Degrees Minutes.m to Decimal Degrees .d = M.m / 60 Decimal Degrees = Degrees + .d Online coordinate conversion tools: http://www.cosports.com/tools/gps_coords.htm http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html http://www.directionsmag.com/latlong.php http://www.geology.enr.state.nc.us/gis/latlon.html I use GPS coordinates for identifying the locations of rural cemeteries and for locating graves in large cemeteries (the maps provided by large urban cemeteries are usually not that detailed). Some GPS units only have one coordinate system (DMS, DM.mm, DD.ddd) while others may have multiple options. When you replace a GPS, the new one may not use the same coordinate system as the old one :-( John > I've been exploring the world of GPS recently.
