Hi Steve,
"may be if I had been good and really got stuck into all of this when I
bought Legacy a couple of years back I would not be in such a mess and
only a few weeks till Version 7 is available to start and learn all over
again."
If I were you, I would forget that there is such a thing as "version 7"
for now, and just get on with using what you have. You have enough in
front of you without worrying about something that you don't have yet.
And when you have been using your v6 for a while and getting the hang of
it, I'm sure you will find that v7 is not so alien. There will be a
reduced price for purchasing an upgrade from v6 to v7, as there has been
in the past, so you won't miss out when you're ready for it. (This has
already been mentioned by Millenia staff on this list)
It's a bit like accounting software (I'm a bookkeeper). Every company
thinks that they're special and unique, and no-one else works the way
they do, so they absolutely *have* to employ staff who have used the
accounting package they have before. I've got news for them - all
accounting packages do the same thing. They record transactions and
classify them. Pretty much end-of-story. If you've learned one and
understand accounting principles, it doesn't take long to learn another.
Once you've learned one genealogy package, and understand the principles
underlying it (which existed long before genealogy programs existed), it
won't take you long to pick up a new one and run with it. The bells and
whistles might change, but recording your data in a sound manner won't.
I'm with the others who have said they won't be rushing into v7. I'm
happy with using v6 for now, and will wait for others to do the
experimentation and complain that their favourite feature isn't working
as they'd like it to. I waited for v6 to settle down, too, and was not
any-the-worse for it. In fact, I was probably better for it, not being
stressed by something that was beyond my control.
Take a deep breath, Steve and everyone else, and get on with the task in
hand! Your blood pressure will thank you for it. :-)
Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard
