* Add the adopted child normally
* When on the FAMILY tab, right click ontop of the children
* Pick the CHILDRENS SETTINGS on the list that pops up
* Highlight the correct child on the new window that pops up
* ONCE THE CORRECT CHILD is highlighted, click the DOWN ARROW near RELATIONSHIP TO FATHER * Double click on FOSTER (or adopted or guardian or whatever. You can add your own if you want)
* Click the DOWN ARROW near RELATIONSHIP TO MOTHER
* Double click on FOSTER
* Click CLOSE
* On some reports, this relationship will now show up.
Don't get confused between the RELATIONSHIP TO ... options and the CHILD STATUS setting. For a while I was adding FOSTER into the CHILD STATUS, but that doesn't give the proper association between the child and each parent. The child status is geared more towards making notes about the child itself (twin, still-born, etc), not about the relationship between the child & parent.

I've suggested that they make an OPTION setting where the user can ask that the child status window pop-up every time a child is added, but so far, no response. Granted, for some folks that would be a royal pain (thus the reason I ask that it be an optional setting), but for others it could be real helpful. I'd think of it just like the when you add a spouse and the Marriage Info window then pops up. I think the "child status" window should show up whenever a child is added.

IF ANYONE ELSE agrees that having the CHILD STATUS window automatically pop up (user controlled option) would be a nice feature, please make a suggestion to Legacy (you can do this on the HOME PAGE within Legacy). Thanks.

Bob

Subject: [LegacyUG] how to register "foster siblings"?

If a child is adopted or put into foster care of a family with other
children, how is this registered in Legacy?

Even though the foster child is not blood related to the other children I'd
still like to be able to register the relationship, but how?

Thanks
Erik
