I already have 6 different email addresses, 4 for work, my "real" email address
to my domain and hotmail. I do not want another. I use hotmail as it is tied
into messenger and the kids use it to contact me through their mobile phones.

Forums have advantages that a mailing list can not address, that said both have
a place. A forum can also act as a mailing list, email people every post if
they so want.

Someone else started the forum concept and got shot down for it. The responses
against a forum have largely been from people not familiar with them, and those
for a forum from people who use them a lot such as myself.

Have a look at this thread started on rootsweb.

http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.legacy/1/mb.ashx
Please look at it in flat view.
You don't need to log in to look at it.
It was started in 1999 with the latest response in March 2008. There are 19
posts, all in order and you can see everything that happened.

Contrast that to even your response, it only deals with my latest email.
Someone else would have no idea of the other posts or context of the original
query in most cases.

It is a pity that Legacy do not support the forums on rootsweb. Although they
are basic it would at least be a start down the path of salvation or perhaps
damnation.
