You might want to make a DUPLICATE/TEST of your file, then tag that individual and all related, and then delete the UNTAGGED ones. That way what will be left is the folks you actually want to delete. You can look them over to see for sure who will be purged and make sure you didn't want any of them.

Once you are sure you are OK, again make a duplicate of your ORIGINAL file, then tag that individual and all related, and this time delete the TAGGED folks. If you are still happy with it, then you can either make this your working file, or do the same to your working file.

**Make sure you've always used a tag slot that isn't in use first!**

Jim,

My line "select from the next screen Entire Family Line" should also have said "only if absolutely certain that there is no connection with anybody you wish to keep"

Jim,

Probably - but with extreme care; so *back up*! If you are unsure as to what you are doing then create a duplicate file and use that for practice.

Make sure that no one else is connected to the individuals who you wish to keep. Since you have deleted the individual then you cannot use him as the starting point to remove his ancestors, if his father and mother can be used then in Family View right click on the tabs and you will enter advanced tagging. Select an empty tag and Ancestors only; select from the next screen "Entire Family Line" otherwise select the top option and click OK. If the top option was chosen then repeat for the mother using the same tag number. Now use Tools>Advanced Deletion and delete everybody with that tag.

If the parents are not suitable then you will have to use a similar method to select and tag the descendants of the eldest ancestors from in the individual's line.

Hello All,

I have a family file that has a family branch that I want to remove: to
include all references in the name index.

When I delete the individual at the start of the branch I want removed, the individual is removed. However, his ancestors remain in the name index. To remove the individual and ALL his ancestors does not seem possible without
removing each branch individual individually.

I have researched and searched the archives and I can't find a method to
remove the branch in one fell chop.

Is there a way to point to an individual and command the program to remove
him and all of his branch in one procedure??

Thanks for any help the group can give this new user.

Sincerely,

Jim Temple
