I think it's easier to follow, although there will still be some confusion because with every marriage there is a new surname. One of the books I found that was for my father's ancestors but done as descendancy report(s) for each surname, truncated when the line connected. At first I was confused because I didn't know who the people were and how they connected. If I had had a chart for reference, it would have been easier. I now think that separate reports by surname would be the easiest to follow, especially when a chart showing the relationship is included. But, Barbara, you should do what suits your needs and your family. Often after 3-4 generations of the names of strangers, eyes begin to glaze over. This is just one suggestion that might help alleviate some confusion for family members who are unfamiliar with the people.

No, I have not researched my d-i-l's line, so when I speak of my
grandson's ancestors, I am only talking about through his father (our
son). So, you're saying to start an ancestor report with me, start
another report with my husband?

No, nothing wrong Barbara. A pedigree chart is only the direct line, no
siblings. Perhaps you'd want to create more than one report so that it's not so confusing. Have you really researched your son(daughter)-in-laws lines?
If not, maybe a report, plus chart, for your line and another for your
husband's. That might be a bit easier to follow. Also, I have thought about
inserting a 3-generation chart at various places of the larger report so
that someone can see what's coming.

Maybe that's worth thinking about--I just chose Reports, Pedigree
Chart, ALL generations, for my grandson...and yes, it is 54 pages. Am
I doing something wrong?

Well, if you're printing, that's alot. Is it really 40 pages if you're
only
doing the direct lines?

Okay, I did think of that (even though the pedigree chart is an
additional 40+ pages), so I'm encouraged that I was thinking along the
right line.....
Thanks,

One way would be to also create an Ancestor or Pedigree chart that only shows the names, so they can follow the lines on the more complex chart
by
seeing the names only on a simpler chart.

I've been months away from the program and am re-acquainting myself
currently. I don't even know the proper way to frame this question, so
I'll just try to explain what I need to know....I'm not a
professional, and the family tree work that I do is strictly for my
own family (at least at this point).
I want to be able to print out a report for my grandchildren that
includes all their ancestors. I'm choosing the Book Report, Ancestors.
When I do that (obviously, this is a huge report--250-300 pages, and
that's before I put in photos), the report does not make clear when it
switches from one family line to another (so, for these young people
who are not familiar with all these family lines. after a few pages,
they lose track of which family they are reading about). Is there a
way to solve this problem?
Thank you,
Barbara
