Hi Bruce,

Not sure what you mean by 'first icon for your wife'? In 'Family view', if
I look at the 'parents icon' (which is what I think you mean) it shows '1'.
When I hover above it shows the correct names. When I double click on the
icon to open the box there are no names showing.

Best wishes

David

It sounds like your wife might be linked twice, once to her "real" parents
and once to a "phantom" marriage.
Look on the Family View at the first icon for your wife. How many are
there? If more than 1 I think you have an extra marriage with two unknowns.
If so, click on the parents icon and delete the unwanted marriage.
Hope this helps.

By the way, if I right click on my wife's name and go to Add>Parents, when I
find the parents in the list and click on, it tells me they are already her
parents, but there is no link or names in the box where the parents should
go.

Subject: [LegacyUG] My wife's parents have become unlinked

Hi everyone,

For some reason my wife has become unlinked from her parents. When I click
on the parents field to link back it asks me if I want to link to an
existing person, I click yes, and it links back to her father. It does not
automatically link to her mother, but when I try the same proceedure with
linking to her mother, it creates another marriage, with only my wife as the
daughter. Elsewhere in the database my wife's parents still exist as a
married couple with all the correct children. There are no complications
like a remarriage, with either of her parents.

I have restored a backup file and the same thing happens. I have run file
maintenance and everything seems fine. Is there another way of linking
existing parents that I have forgotten or didn't know in the first place? I
know many would not wish to persue this matter but how do I get my
mother-in-law back (and father in law). ;-)

Best wishes

David
