OK, well ... I don't know what you created, exactly. Multiples of the .fdb file with different names? I recall you asking why the .fdb file name remained the same when you kept trying to make it take a different name. So what are these 'other' files? I'm just trying to picture what kind of 'extras' you're talking about.

Hi JLB,

It isn't to save space that I want to know about deleting files. It is just that when I was experimenting with trying to create backups for my family file, I created several files, which I now think I'd rather not have cluttering my Data folder. Before I get rid of them, I wanted to check to make sure that it would be safe to do so.

Thanks!

Vicki

Several people have written in the past about deleting
'extra' files to save space on their hard-drive. I
would suggest leaving software installations alone. I
don't know why people are so antsy to get into them and
start deleting files that 'look' like they have
nothing to do with anything. They have all kinds of things
to do with everything. The only files I would delete would
be extra zip backups if I collect reams and reams of them
and don't see the point in keeping one for every time
I've backed up Legacy, which could be several times in
one day, multiplied by weeks and months of that. If you want to clean up your hard-drive, have a look at
your personal files: photos, videos, music, documents, etc
and delete some of those if you don't need them. But
leave your software installations alone.

Thank you to you who wrote giving me advice on my
backup problems. I wrote the other day asking how I could
create a new backup each week in case I need to go back to
a certain point in my data entry.
I think I am starting to understand now. I guess I
was confused as to the difference between a working family
file (fdb) and the ZIP files.
One more question about backups...

Now that I am starting to understand the backup
procedures and how to save family files, is it ok if I go
into the Legacy/Data folder and delete all of the extraneous
files I created? As long as I have my main family file
open, it will automatically save it?
Thanks so much. I am having a hard time changing my
mindset from FTM to Legacy and this group has been very
helpful.
