OK, well ... I don't know what you created, exactly. Multiples of the .fdb file with different names? I recall you asking why the .fdb file name remained the same when you kept trying to make it take a different name. So what are these 'other' files? I'm just trying to picture what kind of 'extras' you're talking about.

Several people have written in the past about deleting

don't know why people are so antsy to get into them and
start deleting files that 'look' like they have

be extra zip backups if I collect reams and reams of them

I've backed up Legacy, which could be several times in
one day, multiplied by weeks and months of that. If you want to clean up your hard-drive, have a look at 
your personal files: photos, videos, music, documents, etc
and delete some of those if you don't need them. But
leave your software installations alone.
