I think in your original post you asked how to change the MRIN in Access and 
Dennis, rightly, pointed out that you should not do this.
 
It is perfectly OK to change the MRIN from within Legacy as the program will 
make the change in all the columns in which they are used, and as you say you 
can change them by exporting and importing.
 
To change from within Legacy goto Tools>Renumber RINs. Do note, however that if 
you create Legacy Pedigree Web Pages then the html file name will be changed 
which will not only adversly effect Search Engine Optimisation but also render 
the file name invalid for those who may have bookmarked a page.
