You can have the sentence read anyway you want and also have the source
superscript if you alter the Sentence Definition.

The simple way would be to type whatever you want in the Sentence Override box,
but you must insert the Field [Sources] at the end of your sentence to have
sources attached to your Event.

To do that, click the down arrow to the right of the box that reads, "[Name] -
full name of individual."

Scroll down to "[Sources] - the source citation references." Highlight it.

[Sources] now appears in the box.

Position your cursor where you want the source superscript to appear. Click
Insert which is to the right of the box.

Now your sentence has [Sources] at the end. If you want punctuation and/or a
space after your sentence but before the source superscript, you must insert it
manually.

The other way:
Highlight the Event
Click on Edit
When in Edit, click on Edit Event Sentence Definition
When in Add/Edit an Event Definition, copy one of the Wording Options. I
usually choose the If All Fields Filled option because it allows me the most
leeway.
Click Cancel to exit that screen. (not Save, in case you made some
unintentional change the to the definition which would then affect ALL those
events).
Back in the Edit Event screen, paste the definition into the Sentence Override
box.

If the box next to the Refresh Sentence box is checked, you can see how
maneuvering the Fields of the definition change how your sentence reads.

override

I'm sorry, I don't understand. I am typing the info into the Sentence
Override box as a complete sentence I create [sometimes a series of sentences].
I'm doing this because I find many of the "standard" event sentences to read
very awkwardly [I'm a former magazine editor].

I see the "Edit Event Sentence Definition" box, but what do you mean by "copy
the appropriate event definition", then "paste the Sentence Definition just
copied"?

  M.

Are you typing the information into the Sentence Override box? If so, the
superscript source will not appear. To have the source superscript appear, go
to Edit Event Sentence Definition and copy the appropriate event definition.
Then Cancel out of Edit Event Definition.

In the Sentence Overide box, paste the Sentence Definition you just copied.
Now you can move the Event Names as you will and watch how it will read,
either because you have checked the Refresh Sentence box, or by clicking
Refresh Sentence box.

override

Hi - I'm using the latest version of Legacy 7.

When I enter information under the "Notes" tab for an event [so that it
follows the standard sentence], then the little number superscript appears with
the event in a report [e.g. Individual or Descendant Narrative}, along with the
source citation itself, but if I use the "Sentence Override" tab and put my
information in there, and add a source to it, then the little number
superscript doesn't appear, but the source citation itself [with an appropriate
number] does appear.

What am I doing wrong? I just started entering Event information, and I
want to catch errors in my process right now, before I have to go back and redo
hundreds [instead of dozens] of Event source citations.

      Thanks, Marianne
