My solution is to use "m/" as a prefix on the spouses name, e.g. "John
Smith married Susan m/Smith". This makes the "fake" name very recognizable,
both in Legacy and in my head.

I have used somewhat made up names a few times, just to help me keep
things straight while doing research on a particular line. Like, using
"Johnswife" and "Jamesswife" etc for surnames on all the "Elizabeth" without
surname spouses belonging to brothers & cousins of the same age/generation.
And
one time I was trying to track the tick marks on a few consecutive early
censuses, when my gggg grandfather remarried very soon after his first wife
(my gggg grandmother) died giving birth to my ggg grandfather "leaving 4
orphan children". Used "Johnsbrother" and "Janesboy" etc. In fact, I think
those are still in there. I am working on other lineages right now, so
they haven't popped out at me lately. Not anything I would leave in to
publish, though! I will look at using the [[privacy]] bracket... see how it
looks on book reports.
Thanks for that suggestion!
