Carl is correct. When the FamilySearch screen opens, it uses, as the
root person, the individual that was selected when you initiated the
function. There is then, no way to change that root person other than to
exit the FamilySearch screen and selecting another person. Within the
confines of what this added functionality is designed to provide, this
was probably a very valid choice on the part of the designers: you would
tend to work on one line or set of Ancestors at a time.

I made the mistake of selecting an Ancestor and then couldn't move
forwards in time towards me. Even changing the number of generations and
hitting the Apply button didn't work. I had to exit, select me and then
go to FamilySearch again.
