Paula, This really is a choice which you can only make for yourself. Personally I use a lap-top, but only because I bought it before notebooks were established. If I were to choose today, then I would have a serious look at notebooks, indeed I would also look at a tablet!
The main criteria would be what software would I run on it, for me, (in addition to the browser) that would be Open Office and Legacy, so I need enough memory to run these and store the associated files, including my data. In your case. only you can answer this question (forgot to mention that I would not consider Apple products – especially for Legacy). Hope this helps.
