This topic has certainly struck a nerve. It is a fact that Legacy
creates a "marriage" whenever a child is added to a single person,
whether that person is a man or woman. I prefer to have nothing in
Family View for the other person responsible for the child, rather than
"unknown" or some other term. I also know that I can change the status
of this marriage to whatever I choose. It is when I produce a report,
say a descendant narrative that I begin to have problems.
As an example, I created a record for a man and added a child, and
changed the status of the Legacy forced marriage to unmarried. The net
result in the descendant narrative report was, (leaving Marriage Status
box checked in Report Options):/John married someone//. Marriage status:
unmarried. He had one daughter Jill. /I am being lazy once again in
asking - is there anywhere that I can choose to have the /married
someone/ phrase not appear or rephrased?
It even gets more interesting when a child is added to a single
woman, the above reports returns: /Jill married someone. Marriage
status: unmarried. *He* had a son John/.
The marriage function in Legacy is fundamental to its structure,
hence the inability to record same sex relationships (without choosing
who plays the male or female role!) and I have been told that to have
Legacy do this, it would require a complete rewrite. Perhaps the same
applies to the issues being raised in this thread.
Regardless, I am looking forward to the release of Legacy 8.
