Good Morning,
Linking files is an ok idea, but if your main hard drive dies or you move files, the link becomes invalid.

That said, here is what to do - this also works for cloud accounts such as dropbox.

If, for instance, I want to link a pdf with a list of folks in Nebraska that are part of my family, here is what to do.
1. Locate the file using Win Explorer
2. It is on my external Drive G in a folder.
3. Right click on the file and copy the name
AncS-AirAllegPA.pdf
Then Right click and copy the path:
G:\Ship-Air1914-62/

Combine the two:
G:\Ship-Air1914-62/AncS-AirAllegPA.pdf
Copy the link to your Person in the Notes Section of Legacy

If the file is in your DropBox.
Open Win Expl
C:\Users\MarthaAG\Dropbox
C:\Users\MarthaAG\Dropbox\Legacy

If you have a separate folder for Documents in your DB Legacy folder, the path is as above.

If the file is online, access the file and copy the link, inserting it into your notes. But, be careful, the fluid nature of the web tells us that stuff can go away. And if you have files on RootsWeb, be careful. They lost tons of data with the recent hardware failure.
