Millennia Staff.
This bug is a BAD one.
On my PII-350MHz with 256Mb RAM and 1.2gig hard drive space, Windows
98SE, Lecacy 3.0 Deluxe w/Dec. 20 build, NO virus scanner or disk
monitoring programs running, minimum programs running in the background,
the step-by-step described below caused a "very serious crash", the worst
I have ever experienced on this computer. I have never received an
"allocation error", lost clusters - yes, but very rarely. This occurred
after a cold boot and the only program run before was Juno ver. 149.
The only recovery was a complete power shut down. A cold boot gave me
this message in a RED box:
Following files have allocation error:
\TEMP\~df6b1b.tmp
This disk's usage table allocates too much or too little space for these
files.
(my choices are to "Continue" or to "Cancel Test") I chose to
"continue".
After some action another RED box opens:
Lost cluster found.
There is 1 lost cluster in 1 chain
. Files with allocation errors
. Lost chains
(my choices are to "continue", "cancel", or something else) I chose to
"continue".
Further action by the computer prompted me to correct, save or not save
the lost cluster and to print out a report of the C:\ drive. The report
confirms the problem was the above mentioned file in the \TEMP\ folder.
Interestingly enough, the .tmp file makes reference to some of my
installed programs and one program no longer on the D:\ drive. I could
find no reference to Legacy. (Most of the file is machine language but
some readable text is in there)
I could send you that .TMP file if you think it might help.
Herb.
