I have Omni Page for years and have thought many time about changing over - I just don't like the thought of learning a new system.
If interested in these programs try e-bay before shelling out the big dollars - can get some real deals. I notice V12 of OmniPage is posted with no min.......starting out at 1.25? Will go much higher but will still be a lot cheaper than store/online. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wm Voss" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2003 1:56 PM Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] OCR Program Good OCRs are pricey, but well worth it if you have lots of documents and don't wish to spend all your time doing manual correcting. The top ones are OmniPage and FineReader. I have used both, but found OmniPage rather buggy and lacking good support (it may have improved). I now use FineReader Pro and have never had a touch of trouble. It has an excellent good accuracy rate (probably the best on the market) and is very good at reading structured pages. The down side is that it runs about $300 (which is still half the price of OmniPage Pro). Both have trial versions. www.finereader.com www.omnipage.com Wm Voss -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of HSP Sent: Tuesday, 03 June, 2003 13:25 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [LegacyUG] OCR Program This may be off topic but as a Legacy user and list member, I thought I would try this very active and mostly helpful list first-- Does anyone have a suggestion for a good Optical Character Recognition Program? I find that with all the new images available online now, I have many many images of pages from genealogy books. Most from genealogy.com online library. These could be handled more easily if they could be converted into text. I realize I have to check carefully for errors after using one, but I know there must be some good OCR programs out there. They wouldn't necessarily have to be free.
