Sherry,

I used the website but I can't recall which bit -whether it was the
suggestion form or the bit that generates an email to tech support (You see
why I need a search facility!!). I sent it three or four days ago I think.

BTW I saw the apparently knowledgable comments earlier about searching SQL
databases but I really can't buy the bottom line.I was quite serious in
saying that virtually all the major software I use can search for any word
in the databases used by the software and at least some of these certainly
use SQL, at least as a query language. Plainly, by being able to export a
gedcom file and query it with another piece of software, which is my current
workaround, it indicates that such a capability could be built into Legacy
and I suspect without any great difficulty. Boolean searching would be nice
too but as a starter, I would be very happy with a simple "find all
occurences" type of search.

Chris

Chris,

I don't see that I ever got the post. You used the suggestion form? When
did you send it?

Subject: [LegacyUG] Search Woes and Pleas

Searching for data I know I have entered in Legacy, drives me up the wall!

Legacy is a great program in many ways and certainly the one I use most for
genealogy but its search facility has to be the most useless clumsiest one
ever seen since the days of papyrus or stone tablets.

Why Oh Why can't it simply search for any word or partial word in all fields
of all record types? Nearly all the software I use has this facility and I
cannot see why Legacy hasn't got it. I often enter a piece of data and
forget exactly where I put it but then I can never find it in Legacy.
Sometimes, exporting the Gedcom to another genealogy program works for me
but then Legacy proprietary fields usually don't make the transition too
well and it's gone forever except for a lucky accident.

I left a suggestion on the Legacy website, asking for this in the next
release but received no reply - can we all please ask for this and then
maybe they will take notice?

Thanks,
Chris
