I don't know about a global search, but at least other programs, old and new
have a search criteria that can be set up with a multiple field list and
search criteria. Having to use the Search and Replace function just to find
text in a field/ with no report; the liability for an accidental replace;
and no multiple field lists is a sad statement in the search/'find area for
Legacy.

At least ...THESE OTHER PROGRAMS...you refer to can give us a search
criteria with a listed field, drop down choices for every field name and
Boolean search content. A report like this in the most part will meet the
needs of many who might think they need a global search.

ax field (select field from drop down) ....equals, does not equal, contains,
does not contain, less than, greater than, less than or equal to, etc (from
drop down menu) to ......."fill in the blank search criteria.

and/or/

repeat above for another field

and/or

repeat above for another field

etc

This gives you a pretty good search without a global. And this IS
AVAILABLE. Look at Rootsmagic (the replacement for Family Origin by the
original Author)....look at PAF, both have free versions.

These are not FAR OUT requests.

I love Legacy and it's interface and I am more than appreciative for the
excellent help that I gain from this board. But it is not conducive to
improving this program and maintaining its competitive edge in the market to
be sarcastic when someone mentions something that other programs are doing
better. There are shortcomings in Legacy. One is in the search functions.
Another is in the reporting of citation text and comment details. The best
way to keep this program moving toward becoming the best it can be is to
point out those thing that the competition is doing. If you don't think
Millenium wants to know those things, I think you are sadly mistaken. They
probably are not happy to hear that people export their detail to Rootsmagic
or anything else to use their search engine and to get their citation detail
report. These are basis necessities. Not personal preferences.

I for one would like to never have to export to any other software for
anything. I would just like to use Legacy. If I settle to be only export
for some personal preference, not some necessity. Mary expressed a valid
expectation, there was no need to be sarcastic. No one's needs are served by
that.
