John, Thanks for agreeing with me, but I can't agree with your not using 
county names. At least in most Southern states, most records are kept on the 
county level and the county courthouse is the first place to look.

Also, I enter the county name as it was on the date of the particular entry. 
Many places in Virginia have had four or more different county names. My 
Hurst ancestors lived in one place for a few decades in the Shenandoah 
Valley, but there were four different county names in that period. I put, or 
should put, a mention of the current name in Notes. Maybe I should find a 
source, or create one, to explain the changes.

As for using abbreviations for state names, right now 98% of my research is 
in the U.S. Most researchers here known the postal codes. Anyone overseas 
doing research here should find a list of the codes. I notice that the 
English often use county abbreviations: Hamps for Hampshire, for example. Is 
Oxon the same as Oxfordshire? Actually, if I ever get around to putting my 
info on the web or in a book, I might use Search and Replace to substitute 
full state names. Not adding USA; if you don't know where Virginia is, leave
