Have you set Preferred parents for the son?
You seem to do this by double clicking on the preferred pair when viewing the parent list.
I think this will sort this for you.

But when moving upwards in Family View from son to mother, the wrong father is shown. The step father is shown even though the son is set to be his stepson. Is there any way to get the correct father displayed in Family View?
