Go to children's settings and mark one of the relationships as adopted, step,
etc.
Using your example, click on the child to bring it to the main position in family view, then right click on his/her name then click View then click Parents List. Select the parents who are the biological parents and select them. When that window goes and the child remains displayed, click on the parents to bring them to the main view. The child, if the 1/2 child is displayed will show the full entry of the child and the second entry for the child. The second entry should now show the name of the parent that he/she is a step child of.
This seems to me to be the correct way of showing these relationships.
