As the one responsible for starting this discussion, I would like to say again why I asked if there was an "easy" method to re-number RINs and MRINs. I was interested in using the filing system suggested by Geoff Rasmussen using these numbers. http://www.fileyourpapers.com/legacy/legacy.html
As my RINs and MRINs were all over the place, I wanted to renumber them so my close relatives and ancestors were near the front of the folders. If I want to do this, I now realise that the only way is the hard way - do them one at a time for the individuals for whom I have a lot of paper files. I just wished there was an easier way. I did try to create a duplicate file and ask Legacy to renumber them, but whatever I put in the fields didn't seem to work.
