Tks for the info Rob. It is good to have more info abt the actual
formatting but it still does not explain tho (does it, or am I being
thick?) why it shows 'published' on the Summary tab when 'None' is used
when obviously (I think) it shouldn't. It is that aspect of it that
started confusing me :-(
This has really come abt because of not knowing how to mark the number
of English BMD's (certified copies) certificates I have (which then led
on to entering photos and scraps of paper etc). If they are marked NONE
then they show as published. Not being very knowledge abt bibliographies
and things of that nature (my schooling never went that far
unfortunately) I am somewhat out of my depth re these things. Obviously
the photos and scraps of paper are not published. I am not sure abt the
certificates.

Hi again, June,
I've found some more information on the "None" option. In Evidence!
by Elizabeth Shown Mills, in Fig. 9 she defines formatting options for
Published works (Italicise), Unpublished works (use quotation marks)
and to quote her: "Serial Manuscript Volumes (courthouse books, church
registers, etc.) use neither italics nor quotation marks." I presume
this is what the None option is for.

Hi June,
"None" means use the formatting (if any) that you've given the Title.
"Quoted" puts the title in quotes, and "italicise"puts the format in
italics. I thought this just set the format of the title on
citations, but it appears to also determine the Published status as
well, as you've identified. I presume that this is to match a
particular citation convention. I'm not aware of a way of setting the
Published status and formatting independently.
Maybe someone else can help further.
Cheers,

Subject: [LegacyUG] What is the 'None' for in the Edit Master Source
Definition screen?
Help. I am confused - I have a number of photos for example, that I
used as sources. When I go into the Edit Master Source Definition
screen, and mark them as 'None' (as opposed to Italicized or Quoted)
I expect that it would show, on the Summary tab of the Master
Source list as not published but it doesn't. Anything that is marked
'None' shows as Published: Yes. The only way I can get a Published:
No. is to select 'Quote'. Is this as it should be? If so what is the
'None' for?
Many tks and a happy, productive New Year to all.
