Thanks for the answer. Even though it wasn't what I'd hoped for, it wasn't unexpected. What's not clear is whether it ia a drive letter issue, or something tied to program modifications to the OS.
I'm still hopeful for a response from someone sharing experience of actually trying to make this work . . especially on a removable hard drive. With Trillian's older IM software a portable version is possible with only minor edits to copies of the program files (presumably developed by the user community).
