    This is the same thing that I do but I precede the name with an x-, like
X-Doe, John and I have them "ALL" marked as private so that they do not  get
exported when I submit to the Internet. Plus my husband and I have had 12
caregivers in the past 6 years and for them I use [CG] Doe, Jane
You could also make a note in the prefix or suffix area of the names.  I
even have one for a past miscarriage and I use him to store stuff like
passwords and other family things.
NOTE -1  I do not think that this would be as easily done in other genealogy
programs but I could be wrong.
NOTE-2   I also use my one and only LEGACY data base for pets. I am anxious
to see how others respond to this thread
