Hi Graham,
I have had a look at the SpanSoft Forum and found the following 3 messages:
I read with interest your news item about the forthcoming release of
Treedraw v3. Will the new version support "intelligent" connectors, rather
than the static lines that currently join nodes, so that moving nodes will
move the connector as well<

Message: Sorry, we are not implementing this in Treedraw V3 <
I too am disappointed that this is not in V3, it is the biggest single
deficiency in this program, I have been suggesting this for years. I really
think that this should be top of the development list. I know it is tricky
to program, but there are libraries (some open source) out there now to
provide such functionality.
Another, related, enhancement, would be a better algorithm for placing
objects in the workspace on import. Very large trees need a lot of moving
around to optimise the space and get something which is easily printable.<
Is this a fair description of the problem which you have identified?
Thank you for drawing this to our attention. At least if I now go ahead and
buy it I am aware of the problem before I hit it.

Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Treedraw for Legacy Questions
The simple answer is no. You can select groups of people and move them to
make space and you can certainly import new individuals or complete family
lines and attach them where you want. But imagine what that means say in
my
tree where some siblings might be a couple of feet apart in real space -
juggling this becomes really awkward and links are not maintained ie
connecting lines are moved or left behind as objects.
I would not let this put you off though - once you get used to how
TreeDraw
works that is how you use it - I no longer use special colours, additional
notes etc. because these will be lost with a major import following
several
new entries in Legacy.
If I recall my original question it was about how automatic updates can be
achieved - I freely admit I may have missed something but have been a long
time user.
Graham
