Hi Sherry, First... I don't particularly like or dislike the new icons.
As for v5: That message stated, "Many of the problems reported have been fixed in v5 and are currently in beta. There will be at least a couple more builds of v5 before v6 is released." There was one more build and I still stand by my statement that "meaningful" updates were not made to v5 after July. Maybe if there was a list of fixes to look at I could be convinced otherwise. Sherry, there are a lot of users that have been asking for fixes for a lot of reporting and other issues for a long time and from my point of view they have been ignored. Every time a patch is released there seems to be a couple new bells and whistles but few fixes. Some users feel they are then left hanging and waiting for, yet, the next patch. I haven't heard any complaints about reporting issues in v6 yet so that's probably a real positive thing for many who use the reports for their choice of presentation. The great thing about Legacy is the functionality it DOES have. And, the support from you and other Legacy staff members. Having said that, at least some of the fixes seem to be taking a very back seat and are not being implemented. I haven't had a chance to get into v6 yet. My hope was that some of the web page generation enhancements would be in v6 since that's how I present my data. From the chatter it sounds like those updates were not implemented which disappoints me. I guess I'll just have to wait for that next illusive patch. I worked in a software group and we kept a list of all software trouble reports (STRs) and new product requests (NPRs). I was one of the coordinators making assignments for the incoming requests and would have to determine priorities; what was important and needed to be worked now, what could wait, and what will never be worked. Every request was assigned to "someone" except the ones in the "will never be worked category" which were assigned to a special place. When the customers would ask about their request and it was in that category the pat answer was it's on the list and we'll eventually get to it. And, this was a true statement. We planned to work on those items if we ever ran out of anything else to do as unlikely as that was to happen. I suspect Legacy uses the same tactics since some of the problems have been around for years according to some users, Again I could be convinced otherwise if there was a list of fixes somewhere. When we released a new package or a patch, the list of fixes was comprehensive and every change was documented so the users could tell by glancing through the list if "their" pet problem was fixed. All release and patch lists were kept online fro reference. I promise I'll never mention v5 again. Gordon, That email was written in July. There was one more build released after that. Thanks for using Legacy. I suspected that they were probably done with any meaningful v5 updates back at the beginning of July, but..... http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg55932. html Now the question is: Is the problem with "?" (please replace "?" with your favorite problem) fixed in v6? I would guess that there is a resolved problem list somewhere but I don't know if we'll see it. It seems a lot of things are included in "and other fixes" so it's hard to tell what has and hasn't been resolved without actually downloading and trying the functions you hope have been addressed by the new release. For the price and the support Legacy gives, it's well worth it to me to do the upgrade.
