Richard,
This is probably not an orthodox method to search, but it works for me!
When I enter the details for anyone who is (or has been married), in the
suffix field I enter the surname of the marriage partner enclosed in double
brackets, ie [[ ]]. I then search on the given name and behind the surname
in brackets is the married name.
It is quite easy to look down a few Mary's or Elizabeth's and find the one I
want.
Mary Anne SMITH [[Jones]]
If she has been married more than once it would be
Mary Anne SMITH [[Jones; Abbot]]
The names in brackets don't show up on printed reports.
Good luck!
By the way, I have over 13,600 names in my data base and I find this works
brilliantly.

| Yes, I know this problem has been asked before but I am such a
| devotee of Legacy that I keep thinking there must be a way to crack it
| with Legacy search power and some work-around process.
| If I know a woman’s married name is Mary Smith [with “Mary” and
| “Smith” the predominate names in my file – making a “Name List” search
| difficult] - but do NOT know her maiden name or the Given Name of her
| husband, how can I locate her in the file?
| If I should also know her birth place or place of marriage, I can
| narrow it down to a workable number using “Find/Detailed Search” – but
| with no other information beside the married name, then …!
| Help, please, from you puzzle experts.
| I have Windows XP-Home and use Legacy Deluxe v.6.0.0.64
