Thanks for the suggestions to all who help.
I do have ms access but have never used it and it does not seem
intuitive, so I went to plan B. I created a GEDCOM from the problem
family file and then looked at the GEDCOM with OpenOffice word
processor. The notes are there, but when I load the GEDCOM in and
convert it to a family file, still no notes.
I also used; file, file management, check-repair, as suggested and no success.

Dick,
Did you do a check-repair on your Legacy file? Did you re-boot your
computer?

Subject: [LegacyUG] lost all my notes
SI have a disaster.
Today has been a horrible day with the internet, very slow, downloads
failing, have had to reboot several times in order to connect at all.
I use XP pro and have a satellite ISP, soon to be DSL. I have run
SpyBot Search and Destroy, Adaware, Trojan Hunter, use Zone Alarm as a
firewall, and run AVG automatically every day. None of these
utilities have located any problems. I use Firefox 1.06 as my main
browser, but occasionally use IE (seldom) and Netscape 8.0, about once
a day.
Today I noticed several (actually just about ALL) of my individual
notes files are gone. The icon is green indicating that notes should
be there but they are gone, all blank, except the few that I put in
today before I noticed the problem.
I do have a backup from about two weeks ago that I can restore to but
I enter several people a day as a rule, so there will be probably a
hundred or so people not on the backup. I would hate to have to re-do
them all.
Does anyone have any idea as to what happened and if they are
restoreable without going to the backup? Oh, there are about 20,000
individuals, so you see my dilema.
Thanks.

I am not sure about this but you might be able to do a System Restore.
Go back to the last known day you had your notes. But then it would be
good to know why they were lost so you can prevent it from happening again.
