Sometimes it's a possibility that the video/graphics card in the
computer can't handle the task and freezes the screen until it gets the
resources to carry on, if ever. Upgrading the video/graphics card can
help providing, of course, your computer is upgradeable.

I also suspect google desktop. In a quiet room you can hear your hard
disk gurgling metronomically about every 15 seconds. I think this is GD
indexing. But that is a LOT of hard disk activity. I wonder if you can
tell GD to index only once a day? Maybe legacy doesn't like something
reading the fdb file so frequently. That said, on some distant thread
not that long ago, Geoff Rasmussen commented that L6 had "resource
issues" and they were working on it.
