Thank you very much for all the good information, Flo

Maybe I can give you some general advice on laptops. Most any new
laptop you will find would have enough processing power and memory to
run any of the software you'll need. Most computers nowdays have at
least 256MB of memory, or it's not too hard to add more if needed.
Genealogy programs (Legacy) and word processors etc run fine even on my
old 333MHz CPU.
More important, in your case, may be weight and battery life. As the
size and weight of laptops goes down, the price goes up. If you have
to have a 6 pound lightweight, you'll pay for it. I have an HP ZV5000
that's a heavy beast, but I don't mind lugging it around in a bag. If
you're planning to get a laptop to carry on-site with you (to
libraries, etc.) you'll want to ask how long you can go on a battery
charge (or carry the AC adapter -- extra weight).
Many of the new laptops have built-in wireless network adapters. I
think that's a nice feature -- our libraries here, and some of the
coffee shops, have free wireless Internet.

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] [LegacyUG ] buying a laptop
Hi,
I want to get a laptop to do genealogy work, not able to do the
work
twice. Being on SS I can't afford the best but would like to
know of you who have them and use them for genealogy primarily -
what
would be the least in memory etc I could get by with. I have over
9800
people from all families I am doing. I am no where near through of
course.
