Thank you for your advice, I like to hear from people who have things
and use them - rather than salesmen at the store.

Lovely story Flo
We just bought a laptop, primarily for my genealogy. The first
requirement was that it be light because I will be travelling with it.
This means that you don't go with the larger monitor (unless this is a
priority with you,
I selected a Toshiba (they have a good rep) Satellite -- not the
top-of-the-line model but the salesman assured me that it would be
adequate so long as I weren't playing games.
It hasn't travelled far and I haven't done a great deal of genealogy
but it seems OK.
I've also been told that Acer is a good brand to look for -- however,
I would not buy the bottom line on this one. My son-in-law got the
bottom line and immediately traded up.
My advice for what it's worth
Hi Flo in Texas
I am enchanted by your story about your granddaughter. Wish mine
were close enough to interact with on any level. I am sorry I cannot
help you with your request but you have come to the right place to ask

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] [LegacyUG ] buying a laptop
Hi,
I want to get a laptop to do genealogy work, not able to do the work
twice. Being on SS I can't afford the best but would like to
know of you who have them and use them for genealogy primarily -
what would be the least in memory etc I could get by with. I have
over 9800 people from all families I am doing. I am no where near
through of course.
Have to relate something my 8 year old granddaughter said. She
wanted me to go do something and I told her I was busy at the moment
doing genealogy. She said why and I went into a big spill about our
ancestors and how we needed to find out where they were from, what
they died of, and on and on. She looked funny at me and said,
"didn't you know we all came from Adam and Eve, so we are kin to
everybody. I wouldn't waste my time writing everyone down, you just
don't have that much time." I never was sure if she meant hours in
the day or years left. :-)
Help!
