Have tried the suggestion of renaming to gedcom files and viewing with Genviwer and also importing into Legacy, without success. The aft file is 1.594 kb and afz file 177 kb in size. I do not have ancestry family tree on my computer. The ".ged" in the file name may mean that they're really GEDCOM text files; you could rename one of them to "young.ged" and try importing as a GEDCOM. If it's a GEDCOM it should also be readable as plain text. If the files are Ancestry Family Tree format you'll probably have to have your relative or someone else export them from their Family Tree program as GEDCOMs, which you can then import.
