> 1) What is the best, standard, most efficient, etc. method of entering a wife > when the maiden name is unknown?
I use a slightly different system to many others. I enter the earliest known surname and add the prefix "Mrs." So if Elizabeth married John SMITH then Albert JONES, then she would be listed as Mrs Elizabeth SMITH. At least that way, something useful appears in any indexes on names. I also state this, and other conventions in the introduction to any report. I don't think it matters too much what system you adopt, so long as you state what it is, and follow it consistantly. The only problem I can see with my approach is that, if she was also a Doctor, or Lady, then the use of the "Mrs" prefix would get in the way, but I'm guessing that it's unlikely that one wouldn't be able to find out the maiden name of such a titled person. > 2) How should an unnamed child that died in infancy be entered? "infant" seems like good practice to me. > 3) I want to add siblings to those people but Legacy doesn't appear to > allow the addition of an individual without a parent. How can I get them in? Since the relationship between the siblings is through, at least, one parent, then there must be a parent in the database. Perhaps one with a given name such as "Father of Albert and Ethel".
