Well, I disagree. The program does not allow me to record
the genders of a same sex couple in the gender radio buttons.
At least not in Version 5! If I click on Husband it makes the
person male. The radio buttons are greyed out. They cannot
be changed. I think having the default is fine. But the radio
buttons should not be greyed out. I should be able to
change them.
I also detached the person and changed her gender ( I gave
her the name of "Mary Jones") from Male to Female. When
I attempted to reattach Mary to Alice (two females) the
program told me that "Husbands must be Male" in the error
message and would not let me attach them.
Putting the data in notes is certainly possible.
It is however not the same. People get used to looking at
the gender radio buttons to see the sex of a person in the
database. There is also color coding assigned based on gender.
Actually, I've not upgraded to Legacy 6 because I find none
of the new features to be worth upgrading for, as I have little
use for them. But I am still sticking with Legacy 5. IMO
Legacy's inability to draw charts without resorting to "outside
help" is a far more serious shortfall than it's inability to properly
record the genders of people in same-sex relationships.
