I record name errors in the source references. The person was never "Also Known 
As". Examples for my grandfather whose name was Samuel.

Sam - AKA
Samul - Misspelled by census taker
Sone - As recorded by Ancestry due to very poor census taker's handwriting

The only time I need the last two, is when someone goes back looking for the 
source.
