Since 9/11 it has become our dossier number,
already children were being provided with social
security numbers at birth, parents applying before
leaving the hospital nursery. That has been going
on for some time. I have not seen one doctor or
medical facility since home security has increased
that has not demanded my social security card and
actually duplicated it for their files. I think we
are going to have to accept that the number is our
identity system. I shiver when I think of the
employees who might have access to that photocopy.
