Cathy, It never occurred to me to check File Maintenance for such a setting. I did switch to the Norwegian-Danish option, but that did not entirely correct the problem.
The surnames beginning with Ø (alt+216) now are in their proper place, but another problem is now present. Surnames beginning with "Aa," such as "Aafeldt," now sort after Ø rather than being properly sorted with names beginning with "A!" Thus, either sort option, "English, et. al." or "Norwegian-Danish" results in an improperly sorted surname index. The optional catagories for setting the sort order also present problems. What if I have surnames beginning with, for example, English, Swedish, French and Norwegian? What sort order does one choose? Perhaps this is what Sherry meant when she indicated the programmers were still looking at the issue.
