Birth, Marriage, Death    The index is handy for narrowing down the time
frame before ordering actual records, especially when used with the census
records.   In July 1837, the goverment began recording b,m,d vital records.
I have no idea regarding compliance.  Prior to that christening, marriage
and burial records were recorded by the churches.  I believe the churches
started in the late 1500's or when the church was established.
