Hello,
I have updated the UTF-8 patch. The new version is available at:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~alexander/patches2/lfs_book-r7243-utf8-1.patch
The rendered version is at:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~alexander/lfs-book/
Changes:
* Implemented the install_root=/ method for suppressing
teas-installation.pl failure (Bug 1675). This method is chosen because
it involves less typing. Feel free to override my choice.
* Removed instructons for locale installations from Chapter 5 Glibc,
replaced with a link to Chapter 6.
* Accounted for the fact that none of the locales are in fact required
for testsuites to pass (thanks to DIY Linux).
* Adjusted descriptions of programs and libraries installed by Glibc
(relevant for the non-UTF-8 book too).
* Suppressed installation of Korean and Chinese manual pages for Shadow
because they are not readable in the described setup.
* Removed the "all UTF-8-only bugs are WONTFIX" note from
chapter07/profile.xml (but it is still true), pointed to the BLFS page
for locale related issues.
Things not done yet:
* Convert Groff Debian patch to LFS-style patch. I think it is a bad
idea because this is a maintained patch that (like packages) has
versions, but feel free to ignore my thoughts and do the conversion
yourself.
* Consider using DB instead of GDBM. Sorry for not doing that, it's
really my fault. But it is possible to change after merging.
* Uncomment the rationale note for removal of some Vim tutorials. Not
sure about the best wording. Uncomment yourself if you think it is good
enough and that readers will really benefit from seeing this note.
Please apply the patch, and, in the case if it is unsuitable as a whole,
please don't revert parts that are actually OK.
