Oh: you're setting it up so the package user uses a non-empty DESTDIR,
then moves the files into the real system?  That's an interesting idea;
hmm.  I'm not seeing where it would matter much; can you be more
specific on some of the gremlins that this helps with?

Or aren't you moving the files as the package user?  I'd think you'd
have to...
