What I've got is good enough for my uses, and I have to say that I
distrust anything that will *automatically* uninstall any package.
For example, I install a LOT of perl modules, all of them update
perllocal.pod.  Anyway, too much else on my plate - for the
computing part I need to build a LOT more to test 8.1, some of which
will be newer versions, resulting in measuring and editing IFF they
work, plus various other things for my own benefit.

But anyway, maybe the OP might like your approach.  I really don't
care HOW people keep track of what changed on their system, but we
are all our own admins and we need to develop methods that work for
us.
