I think that there is some misunderstanding here.

We were asked (from our customers) to optimized some codecs from 
FFmpeg and are in process of submitting patches to FFmpeg maintainers 
(some of them are already integrated).

Few weeks ago I was contacted by Mr. Biurrun (Mr. Rullgård was in cc) 
and asked to submit patches to libav also.  We though that supporting 
libav project (in addition to ffmpeg) would not require significant effort 
(as parts of the code that we optimized are the same in both projects) 
and accepted to do so. 

But, in initial comments on first submissions serious changes of the 
optimized code were required. As resources were not planned for such 
additional work we must delay submissions to libav project until we get 
additional resources.

What do you mean by "two versions"?  There is no need to support both
inline and external asm ...
