I am not a lawyer... but it's common belief that as long as you do not charge for the usage of your software, you're usually in the clear. MPEG-LA only goes after those with money to take... "*Q: Is it perfectly alright to incorporate the whole FFmpeg core into my own commercial product?* A: You might have a problem here. There have been cases where companies have used FFmpeg in their products. These companies found out that once you start trying to make money from patented technologies, the owners of the patents will come after their licensing fees. Notably, MPEG LA is vigilant and diligent about collecting for MPEG-related technologies" ( http://ffmpeg.org/legal.html) Considering it sounds like your project is open source/free, I would just recommend passing on the previous message to your users and leave it at that. > > > Thanks for the input! > > Best regards, > -Stephan > _______________________________________________ > libav-user mailing list > [email protected] > https://lists.mplayerhq.hu/mailman/listinfo/libav-user > _______________________________________________ libav-user mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mplayerhq.hu/mailman/listinfo/libav-user
