I've tested two more machines as follows: OS | Driver | Card | Result ----------------------------------------------------------------- Ubuntu 10.04 | NVIDIA 195.36.24 | GeForce 8400M GS | OK Ubuntu 9.10 | Kernel 2.6.31 | Intel 945GME | FAIL
Turns out the other machine is an i945 which passes one of the tests the i915 failed.
