The preferrred way to build libftdi and the examples is by using cmake. E.g.
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ../CMakeLists.txt
make

The dependancies of libusb might be a little hard to fullfill.

If you have a recent libftdi-1 already installed, follow the advice from Jim
Paris.

Bye
