Ok now I got it - I did not know that this setting was related to this menu
command (new as well, you did not mention it previously I think).
So I created a new icon item with this command, put it into the table toolbar
where the old default button was before, and got the same (almost)
functionality. Almost since this way it seems not to be possible to hide/show
table boundaries independently from other boundaries unless you go into
settings to change it. But this is a very minor issue.
As this is a modification to the app that will probably go unnoticed by many,
and many users wouldn't bother/be used to personalize the toolbar themselves,
perhaps the new icon I inserted to replace the old, ever present one, could be
inserted by default in the install process.

As a final note, both the new settings option and the menu command are in
English in the Italian version, but this I assume is due to be corrected in
later releases.

Sorry for touching the status!
