The solution of

> statusbar allows to switch the language

extrapolates / rubs this issue in my face: because in Writer I have there both
English and Polish on the list, and when I choose either of them it gets
conveniently applied For Selection - while in Calc I only get English, which I
reckon gets applied For All Text. In other words: Writer allows me with just 2
clicks to switch languages on the spot / for one word - while Calc does not

In comparison to this, the

> menu > Format > Character for parts of text (that has been selected) within
> cells

is inconvenient, because it requires more clicks and is (as it has been pointed
out) inactive when a whole cell is selected. And having to repeatedly scroll
down to find on the list

Format Cells > Font > Western > Language > Polish

in a tedious counterproductive method

As for concerns of

The option of

Writer > Tools > Language > For Selection >

says it all - it is for whatever is selected. Thus

Calc > Tools > Language > For Selection >

would apply it also for just one word, one cell, 3 rows, 99 columns or even all
cells if user would press CTRL + A beforehand
