As aforesuggested, even two default templates would be an improvement. Regardless, the rationale has been well-formulated: few (even printed) documents utilise serif type-faces, so it being the default is non-sensical. The ideal default is to adhere to the default type-face, as CSS3's `:root {font-family: system-ui}` does.
